Elsie's Puppies - update! @ 10:06 am

Current Mood: busy busy

Sorry I haven't been posting progress pictures - I've been a little bit busy!

Almost two months ago I took on a pregnant Pit/Lab mixed that I named Elsie - she ended up having 9 puppies... 5 girls and a 4 boys... who are now 6 weeks old! They are totally weaned and eating solid food... they've been dewormed once already and will be vaccinated with in the week. The rescue is going to start to adoption process now (looking for suitable homes for them) but they wont be going to approved homes until they are 8-9 weeks old and have been spayed/neutered/chipped (which is rescue policy).

Cut for Cuteness!! )

I am also pleased to say that Mama Dog Elsie has finally warmed up to my dogs. In fact... she wont leave them alone! She she actually attacked Annee (my Corgi) and Ferris (My Corgi/Chihuahua) and snapped at Ronny (my Boxer/Shepherd) and Qoppa (My Pit Bull). it got to the point that Ronny and Annee wanted NOTHING to do with her (Ronny was terrified of her!) but Qoppa and Ferris still tried to play with her. After a few days on a leash with a basket muzzle on, I realized she was actually terrified of them. She would just breath heavily and shake for over an hour when I would take her out to play be with them. My dogs left her totally alone and she still did this. if she got near them, she growled. She has a lot of REALLY NASTY scars all over her body - they definitely look like bite scars... like, torn flesh scars - not just punctures... so I can't say I blame her. However after about a week and a half of the cage muzzle/gentle leader combo I totally trust her with my dogs. My dogs are always in crates when no one is around, but when I am home all 5 of them are out and playing constantly. Elsie likes to initiate play by grabbing a toy/random thing on the floor and playing "keep away" by getting the zoomies all over the living room. The other dogs chase her and she loves it! They also wrestle a lot which is really cool because wrestling was what scared her the most when I had her out with the basket muzzle on (it made her shake the most because my dogs make a lot of loud noises when they do this). She must of realized that my dogs were nothing to fear (they really are nothing to fear... they are very balanced, dog friendly, mellow dogs.) and now she loves them! Plus I'm sure she loves being away from the puppies since they have teeth and a combined weight of about 50lbs...she doesn't even weigh that much!

Here's a picture of Elsie and my pack... She is the one being pursued by the Airborne Corhuagi... something that she would never allow a month or so ago. Now she lets him climb all over her - haha!

So yeah, the past month and a half has been crazy - but we're rounding the final corner. I am going to miss mom and the pups - but I am NOT going to miss having 14 dogs. It's not all it's cracked up to be. I'm totally fine with "just" 4 :D

Foam head for sale @ 05:01 pm

Current Location: STV, AZ
Current Mood: hopeful hopeful

Hey guys just letting you know I am selling a foam on balaclava based head on FurBuy right now.

It is a work in progress that I started a LONG time ago and never finished. When we moved recently I came upon it and decided to try and find it a new home.

It needs a lower jaw and a little bit of fixing up - but with the right motivation it could end up looking really nice. It was suppose to be a dragon/dino - but you can always add on or shave off foam to create your creature of choice.

Fitness resolution @ 01:45 pm

Current Mood: determined determined

So one of my New Year's resolutions was the get in shape. Not just lose a little weight - actually get IN SHAPE. I have always been skinny, and it was only recently that I packed on a couple extra pounds (still normal-range weight for me, but not really what I want) - but I have almost always been out of shape.

I'd love to run a mile in under 10 minutes. I have never been able to do that. I always got 11+ when I ran the mile in school and they just stopped timing if you took over 15 minutes (which was often the case for me). Toward the end of middle school and on into high school I got a little better with the 11 minute mile - but I can't do it without feeling like I'm dying afterward. I attributed the doing better to being involved with Basketball, Softball and Track (even though I was only in Shot put and high jump we still had to do warm ups, haha

So anyway. I plan on finding a kick boxing class - but in the mean time I got a Wii Fir Plus for Christmas from my mom. It's really helped her and I really wanted to try it out! So now that the Wii is set up in the new house, I got the whole thing set up. I also made little doggy miis for the dogs and weighed them all! Haha It's so adorable!

So anyway, here's where we're starting today.

Me: 155 lbs
Annee: 31 lbs
Qoppa: 55 lbs
Ronny: 57 lbs

The perfect weight (according to BMI and Wii Fit) for me would be 148lbs, but I wouldn't mind 145lbs. For those of you shocked that I weigh 155 lbs - keep in mind - I am very tall! I am not overweight by any means... and I know that, I just want to get to my ideal weight, and perhaps gain a little in muscle.

The dogs are perfect for their breeds/ages/health conditions. 29-32 is good for Annee - Cardis can be a lot bigger, but I like to see her on the lower end of that because of her hips. Pits are hard to gauge because they have a wide weight range: 35-75 pounds depending on breeding and what they're mixed with - but I've found that 53-58 is good for Qoppa since she is really muscular and the vet says there isn't an ounce of fat on her - lol. Ronny will probably continue to get bigger, which is to be expected with a 9 month old puppy! I think he'll get more muscle and end up around 65 lbs by the time he is 2 years old - but who knows with mutts!

So I have a good start to my fitness goals. Hopefully I can continue with them because I am feeling better already!

Why Martin Luther King Was Republican
by Frances Rice
08/16/2006

It should come as no surprise that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a Republican. In that era, almost all black Americans were Republicans. Why? From its founding in 1854 as the anti-slavery party until today, the Republican Party has championed freedom and civil rights for blacks. And as one pundit so succinctly stated, the Democrat Party is as it always has been, the party of the four S's: slavery, secession, segregation and now socialism.

It was the Democrats who fought to keep blacks in slavery and passed the discriminatory Black Codes and Jim Crow laws. The Democrats started the Ku Klux Klan to lynch and terrorize blacks. The Democrats fought to prevent the passage of every civil rights law beginning with the civil rights laws of the 1860s, and continuing with the civil rights laws of the 1950s and 1960s.

During the civil rights era of the 1960s, Dr. King was fighting the Democrats who stood in the school house doors, turned skin-burning fire hoses on blacks and let loose vicious dogs. It was Republican President Dwight Eisenhower who pushed to pass the Civil Rights Act of 1957 and sent troops to Arkansas to desegregate schools. President Eisenhower also appointed Chief Justice Earl Warren to the U.S. Supreme Court, which resulted in the 1954 Brown v. Board of Education decision ending school segregation. Much is made of Democrat President Harry Truman's issuing an Executive Order in 1948 to desegregate the military. Not mentioned is the fact that it was Eisenhower who actually took action to effectively end segregation in the military.

Democrat President John F. Kennedy is lauded as a proponent of civil rights. However, Kennedy voted against the 1957 Civil Rights Act while he was a senator, as did Democrat Sen. Al Gore Sr. And after he became President, Kennedy was opposed to the 1963 March on Washington by Dr. King that was organized by A. Phillip Randolph, who was a black Republican. President Kennedy, through his brother Atty. Gen. Robert Kennedy, had Dr. King wiretapped and investigated by the FBI on suspicion of being a Communist in order to undermine Dr. King.

In March of 1968, while referring to Dr. King's leaving Memphis, Tenn., after riots broke out where a teenager was killed, Democrat Sen.
Robert Byrd (W. Va.
), a former member of the Ku Klux Klan, called Dr. King a "trouble-maker" who starts trouble, but runs like a coward after trouble is ignited. A few weeks later, Dr. King returned to Memphis and was assassinated on April 4, 1968.

Given the circumstances of that era, it is understandable why Dr. King was a Republican. It was the Republicans who fought to free blacks from slavery and amended the Constitution to grant blacks freedom (13th Amendment), citizenship (14th Amendment) and the right to vote (15th Amendment). Republicans passed the civil rights laws of the 1860s, including the Civil Rights Act of 1866 and the Reconstruction Act of 1867 that was designed to establish a new government system in the Democrat-controlled South, one that was fair to blacks. Republicans also started the NAACP and affirmative action with Republican President Richard Nixon's 1969 Philadelphia Plan (crafted by black Republican Art Fletcher) that set the nation's fist goals and timetables. Although affirmative action now has been turned by the Democrats into an unfair quota system, affirmative action was begun by Nixon to counter the harm caused to blacks when Democrat President Woodrow Wilson in 1912 kicked all of the blacks out of federal government jobs.

Few black Americans know that it was Republicans who founded the Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Unknown also is the fact that Republican Sen. Everett Dirksen from Illinois was key to the passage of civil rights legislation in 1957, 1960, 1964 and 1965. Not mentioned in recent media stories about extension of the 1965 Voting Rights Act is the fact that Dirksen wrote the language for the bill. Dirksen also crafted the language for the Civil Rights Act of 1968 which prohibited discrimination in housing. President Lyndon Johnson could not have achieved passage of civil rights legislation without the support of Republicans.

Critics of Republican Sen. Barry Goldwater, who ran for President against Johnson in 1964, ignore the fact that Goldwater wanted to force the Democrats in the South to stop passing discriminatory laws and thus end the need to continuously enact federal civil rights legislation.

Those who wrongly criticize Goldwater also ignore the fact that Johnson, in his 4,500 State of the Union Address delivered on Jan. 4, 1965, mentioned scores of topics for federal action, but only 35 words were devoted to civil rights. He did not mention one word about voting rights. Then in 1967, showing his anger with Dr. King's protest against the Vietnam War, Johnson referred to Dr. King as "that Nigger preacher.
"

Contrary to the false assertions by Democrats, the racist "Dixiecrats" did not all migrate to the Republican Party. "Dixiecrats" declared that they would rather vote for a "yellow dog" than vote for a Republican because the Republican Party was know as the party for blacks. Today, some of those "Dixiecrats" continue their political careers as Democrats, including Robert Byrd, who is well known for having been a "Keagle" in the Ku Klux Klan.

Another former "Dixiecrat" is former Democrat Sen. Ernest Hollings, who put up the Confederate flag over the state Capitol when he was the governor of South Carolina. There was no public outcry when Democrat Sen. Christopher Dodd praised Byrd as someone who would have been "a great senator for any moment," including the Civil War. Yet Democrats denounced then-Senate GOP leader Trent Lott for his remarks about Sen. Strom Thurmond (R.-S.C.). Thurmond was never in the Ku Klux Klan and defended blacks against lynching and the discriminatory poll taxes imposed on blacks by Democrats. If Byrd and Thurmond were alive during the Civil War, and Byrd had his way, Thurmond would have been lynched.

The 30-year odyssey of the South switching to the Republican Party began in the 1970s with President Richard Nixon's "Southern Strategy," which was an effort on the part of Nixon to get Christians in the South to stop voting for Democrats who did not share their values and were still discriminating against their fellow Christians who happened to be black. Georgia did not switch until 2002, and some Southern states, including Louisiana, are still controlled by Democrats.

Today, Democrats, in pursuit of their socialist agenda, are fighting to keep blacks poor, angry and voting for Democrats. Examples of how egregiously Democrats act to keep blacks in poverty are numerous.

After wrongly convincing black Americans that a minimum wage increase was a good thing, the Democrats on August 3 kept their promise and killed the minimum wage bill passed by House Republicans on July 29. The blockage of the minimum wage bill was the second time in as many years that Democrats stuck a legislative finger in the eye of black Americans. Senate Democrats on April 1, 2004, blocked passage of a bill to renew the 1996 welfare reform law that was pushed by Republicans and vetoed twice by President Clinton before he finally signed it. Since the welfare reform law expired in September 2002, Congress had passed six extensions, and the latest expired on June 30, 2004. Opposed by the Democrats are school choice opportunity scholarships that would help black children get out of failing schools and Social Security reform, even though blacks on average lose $10,000 in the current system because of a shorter life expectancy than whites (72.2 years for blacks vs. 77.5 years for whites).

Democrats have been running our inner-cities for the past 30 to 40 years, and blacks are still complaining about the same problems. More than $7 trillion dollars have been spent on poverty programs since Lyndon Johnson's War on Poverty with little, if any, impact on poverty. Diabolically, every election cycle, Democrats blame Republicans for the deplorable conditions in the inner-cities, then incite blacks to cast a protest vote against Republicans.

In order to break the Democrats' stranglehold on the black vote and free black Americans from the Democrat Party's economic plantation, we must shed the light of truth on the Democrats. We must demonstrate that the Democrat Party policies of socialism and dependency on government handouts offer the pathway to poverty, while Republican Party principles of hard work, personal responsibility, getting a good education and ownership of homes and small businesses offer the pathway to prosperity.

Public Service Announcement @ 09:35 am

Current Location: Tempe, AZ
Current Mood: determined serious

First of all my thoughts and good wishes go out to [info]leobluewolf and his baby husky girl. This should never happen to anyone. I do not even know why they are allowed to sell this shit. http://leobluewolf.livejournal.com/4701.html

This product that caused this is called Sergeants: http://www.sergeants.com/animals/flea_tick/fleas_ticks.asp

...but on another note:

NEVER EVER USE OVER THE CONTROL FLEA AND TICK CONTROL ON YOUR DOG. If I had a dollar for everytime someone ended up hurting their dog by trying to save a couple of bucks and use that shit (Harts, Zodiac, etc etc) I wouldn't have to work anymore. That stuff is shit. Flea collars don't work either, I have seen dogs come in covered in fleas and have a flea and tick collar on - they just wont be near the collar. Here's a safe bet - if you can buy it in a pet store, like petsmart or petco, DON'T USE IT. Only use what the vet gives you! Reactions from OTC products ranges from severe skin reactions, seizures and even death.

I recommend;

Advantix (Awesome for Med-Lg dogs -DO NOT use this ON or IF YOU HAVE cats)
Advantage (Best for cats)
Frontline (Best bet for smaller breed dogs)
Promeris (New product, seems to be working well from what I heard)
Revolution (Safe, but sometimes I question it's effectiveness)

In that order

It's still "OTC" - you just have to buy it at a vets office - no office visit required.

Also, do not SHARE medications with your animals. Advantix is a good example - it works wonders on dogs - but if you put that on a cat - you WILL KILL YOUR CAT. It says on the box DO NOT USE ON CATS - but you'd be surprised how many people think they can save a buck and share medications between their animals. Weight is also important - make sure you have a current weight on your pet so the vet can prescribe the right size. You don't want to be giving the 50-100lbs dose to a 25lbs dog.

You'd also be surprised that people have tried to apply these medications rectally or orally instead of along the shoulders and back.

Just a public service announcement. I know we are pretty much out of flea and tick season in more of the country - but it'll be back before you know it and this will be some good information to keep in mind.

But seriously - there needs to be some kind of movement to get this shit off the shelves.

Improv night at MFF08 @ 12:15 pm

Current Location: Tempe, AZ
Current Mood: ecstatic ecstatic

So the programming guide for Midwest Furfest 2008 is out - and I am VERY excited about the scheduling of my panel this year!

So this year they are doing things a bit different. Due to popular demand, Furry Variety Show and Whose Lion is it Anyway? (Alkali's and my panel) will NOT be on the same night! Woo!! Instead, FVS has been moved to Saturday night and Whose Lion will remain on Friday night - but much earlier this year! 9pm-11pm is our new time block and this year I am happy to say that we will be followed up by ANOTHER improv panel, Kage, 2 and Jibba in their own improv panel!

What's the difference between the two improv panels? Well Kage, 2 and Jibba's panel is just them doing improv (and doing it damn well if I might say so myself) while Whose Lion is open participation - so you don't have to "be in the show" in order to get up there and do your thing. So it will be a nice pre-req to watching the masters do it.

So no excuses this year you guys - my panel is a lot earlier and doesn't conflict with the FVS - PLUS you get a bonus show if you stay afterwards!

Fuck. I hope we have enough room for everyone!! I have yet to see the new hotel, and I have no idea what the room will look like -but hopefully it'll be able to accommodate A LOT MORE than the 130+ people we had last year. I am sure it'll be fine ^_^

My signature:

I am a long time verizon costumer - I've recommend you guys to all my friends. I don't think I'll be doing that any longer. This commercial is uncalled for and stupid. I have a pit bull that is nicer and better behaved then many of the dogs I have met through my job as a vet tech. In fact, she has been used as a great learning tool to teach veterinary technicians blood draws, cystocentesis and even eye exams because of the fact she is so well behaved and will just sit there for it. She is also a blood serum donor and has helped many other dogs by doing this. We have fought hard to fight the stereotype of her breed, and once people meet her, they think a lot differently. She is currently training to be a Certified Canine Good Citizen and I hope to make her a therapy dog in the future. No, she is not one I raised from a puppy, I adopted her from a local shelter when she was about 1 year old. Her previous owners had obviously abused her because she had some dental issues that the doggy dentist told me could of only been caused from blunt force trauma to the mouth (so, in other words, she had to have been kicked or punched in the mouth when she was about 6 months old). Real nice huh? This dog, despite all that, is one of the sweetest most well behaved dogs I have ever owned (that I have owned A LOT of dogs!) and to see that commercial really upsets me because I know that it's what people are going to think about when I walk her down the street. What a step backward...

I don't care if the dog's are just actors, we are tired of the negative stereotypes!!! People aren't gonna see this commercial and think "oh those dogs are really good actors" they are going to think "Man, pit bulls are so scary! Let's ban even good owners from having them!"

With the number of goat traumas increasing every year, it has become necessary to take measures to protect yourself. With this in mind, the Childhood Goat Trauma Foundation has put together this list of advice.

*
Never, under any circumstances, turn your back on a goat. This is Rule Number One of Goat Trauma Avoidance.
*
Avoid petting zoos. The majority of goat traumas occurring each year take place at petting zoos.
*
Stay alert. Goats are deceitful and can hide just about anywhere.
*
Stay in civilized areas. While there have been reports of roaming urban goats, most attacks by loose goats take place in less populated areas.
*
Be suspicious of all farm animals. While other animals such as sheep, cows and horses are not by any means the violent creatures that goats are, goats frequently lurk within a herd, waiting to take advantage of peoples' trust in such animals. There have been some reports of goats avoiding the presence of certain breeds of dogs, but the Foundation has yet to test this theory.
*
If you must be in an area where goats are present, stay away from the younger goats. Older goats can be slower, allowing you more time to escape.
*
Wearing earth tones in goat-infested areas may offer some protection from goat attack, due their camoflaging abilities.
*
Goats have learned to climb trees and drop down onto unsuspecting people. Please see the evidence. Be especially aware in any treed, goat-infested areas.

So yesterday was great other than a little episode with the Petshotel. It's taken care of now...but the girls are taking a day off from it today.

We got dinner at Outback with [info]kamo2paws and [info]katsuri it was yummy! We picked Blackjack up and drove him up to their house. Blackjack was really nervous around Enzo, Sheefer and Pokey's dog, Kane (what a gorgeous german shepherd!!!) But once we got them in the back yard they were having lots of fun!! I guess he cried all last night because we left him there... But he'll get used to it just like he got used to us. I was a little sad, but I knew he was going to a good home. Plus it's nice to just have to two girls again ^_^

Taren got me a sweet card, candy and new headphone for our anniversary... <3 I needed a new pair because mine died :(

I'm excited to start my 3rd year with Taren, the first two have been so great!

Just a few more hours then I'm off tomorrow!

Service Dog Missing!! @ 10:44 pm

Current Mood: determined concerned

We are trying to reunite a missing service dog with his disabled owner. In this unique, heart wrenching case, "Hunter", a 9 year old Belgian Tervuren, reddish fawn in color with a fair amount of blackening on his face, weighing about 60 lbs. must have felt duty bound to back out of his collar and leash to search for his owner who was undergoing eye surgery at the time.

Hunter, a service dog, alerts his owner, M. Shirley Chong, when her blood sugar levels drop. Shirley is diabetic and also has balance problems when walking so Hunter is there by her
side to stabilize her and make her life independent. While Shirley monitors her blood
glucose levels 8 to 10 times daily, Hunter has awakened her from deep sleep at night
to alert her so she has a chance to take corrective measures before going into a diabetic
coma. This cannot be trained! It is a rare dog who possesses these innate abilities.
Hunter is a very rare dog and is sorely missed and needed because he's a companion
and dear friend.

Hunter is tattooed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations though not
wearing a collar with tags.

Last night (Sept. 02) there was a credible sighting in the vicinity of
Midamerican Energy along Lower Muscatine Rd. in Iowa City, IA. According to the police
dispatcher, he seemed to be injured in the rear but was still too fast for the
officers to capture.

Anything you can help do to reunite this very special dog with his disabled
human partner would be greatly appreciated around the world. We have people
connected via the internet from Switzerland, Sweden, South Africa, the UK,
Japan plus a huge network here in the US all praying, offering suggestions,
volunteering action for help on reuniting this special dog with his grieving owner.

HELP!!! POSSIBLE HEAT STROKE!!!!! @ 10:45 am

Current Location: Tempe, AZ
Current Mood: hopeful hopeful

Okay - so the freon is leaking out of my car and I live in the middle of a desert. On average it's like 107o here but can get as hot at 120o!! It SUCKS to have no aircon - but it also sucks to have no money to get it fixed!

So here is what I am offering - SKETCH COMMISSIONS!!!!

My sketches are awesome - well, by that I mean they are also inked and shaded! So they aren't a quick sketch, I spend a lot of time on them and they always end up looking very nice!

I am asking a mere $8 bucks a sketch. Why? Because I don't think they're worth $10 and I think they're worth more than $5. If you want a really detailed piece or multiple characters - I will ask a little more - but base price for a one character portrait is $8.

examples can be found here: http://www.furaffinity.net/user/semjay/

My paypal address is semwoofer@gmail.com. If you could, please respond with a reference picture of your character so I can get all the details right!

SO here we go:

1. [info]jilduck - paid
2. [info]yippee - paid
3. [info]luckytheevildog - not paid
4. [info]hollyannvix - not paid
5. [info]raspberryroo - not paid
6. [info]katmaxis -not paid

7. [info]aerofox
8.
9.
10.
11.
12.

We'll start out at 6 - that's a forth of the way there. Once I get these done, I'll open up for 6 more and so on and so forth.

A "friendly" reminder... @ 06:38 pm

Current Location: Gilbert, AZ
Current Mood: annoyed annoyed

Just a "friendly" reminder:

THIS JOURNAL IS FRIENDS ONLY!!!

When I add you as a friend, that means I trust that you will read my journal and not share it with other people. There are a few people in this world who for some reason are OBSESSED about me and have been using alternative names or their friends to read my journal. WTF is wrong with you? Seriously, get a flippin' life!

I have cut a few people who either a) I don't know, b) know but don't know very well or c) don't have active journals. If you feel I've cut you by mistake, please let me know in private.

My journal is friends only for a reason. Don't abuse it by sharing what you read with other people or try to use my entries against me! That totally doesn't sit well with me!

And if ANY of you know anything about people using alternative usernames - I'd appreciate it if you'd let me know.

If something like this happens again - don't think I wont hesitate to make a friends cut so large that only my closest friends would be on the list. I wanted to keep this journal completely open so I could meet more people - but if people are going to be sneaky and immature - I'm afraid I can't do that.

Update on Annee @ 04:03 pm

Current Location: Roselle, IL
Current Mood: worried worried

So Annee is at Schaumburg Banfield - on IV fluids for the rest of the day.

The gave me a bill at my place and I burst out into tears because it was in the 1000s. The doctors there even suggested I go to Banfield because it's cheaper there.

I trust Dr. M more than any of those doctors at AVAH. She'll take good care of Annee - and if she needs further diagnostics (ultrasound...etc) then she'll have to go back to my work.

We're already over $500 - and climbing. I don't care though - if she needed the $3000 foreign body removal surgery - then I would find some way to pay it.

The house feels so empty with only one dog in it right now...

Beatrice @ 11:18 am

Current Location: Roselle, IL
Current Mood: sad sad

I just heard some terrible news (NO SHIT IT'S JANUARY 20th)

Well, I got a message from an old co-worker of mine from Bloomingdale Banfield. Seems one of her two dogs got out of their yard and hasn't been seen for a week and a half. They have an 8 foot privacy fence with a gate that is normally locked, but when she went to let them in, her 1 and a half year old Pit Bull, Blade, was still in the backyard, but her 2 and a half year old Staffordshire Terrier, Beatrice, was missing and the gate was open.

Since she is a "Bully Breed" I am very worried for her. I'm afraid someone either dog-napped her and used her and is using her for fighting, or a shelter picked her up and euthanized her because of her breed. She is a very sweet girl, a little shy, but would never lift a lip at you. This really sucks - neither Tammy nor Bea deserve this.

Tammy lives in the Hanover Park area, so anyone from that area please keep your eyes and ears open for Beatrice. She is very nice, so if you see her, don't be afraid of her. She should come to "Bea" or "Beatrice" or even her original name "Hollywood". She should be microchipped with twice Banfield Microchips...

Current Noise: "You Had a Bad Day" - Daniel Powter - (My Stuff)

You know, I could rant about the bad day that I had - you know, getting biten and scratched to the point of bleeding by an asshole beagle we were trying to give barium to because the retard ate a panty hoe. Or about having people come in 20 minutes before close even though we TOLD THEM ON THE PHONE that we were too busy and an EAR RECHECK can wait for the morning.

I could rant about my day - but so far, everyone else has done a wonderful job ranting about their own days - that mine doesn't seem so bad anymore.

here's a video for all you people who "had a bad day"

Well atleast I've probably got a spiffy new scar on my right arm to show for it - it matches the long one on my left arm! ^_^

In other news, I need to go back to vet school.

Banning Labs? @ 08:54 pm

ONTARIO MOVES TO BAN LABRADOR RETRIEVERS
by Publisher on Wed 23 Aug 2006 09:55 AM EDT

Toronto, August 23, 2006: The Attorney General for Ontario announced last night that in view of the success of the province's ban on pit bulls the government is turning its attention to another very popular breed of dog.

He made the following announcement at a press conference late yesterday: "These dogs are involved in more biting and mauling incidents than any other breed in Ontario. Every time I read a news report about a dangerous dog, it involves a Lab or a Lab cross. We had another incident today in Waterloo involving Labs attacking people on the street. Enough is enough. It's time to take a long, hard look at these dogs."

When questioned about the advisability of bringing the issue before the public in an election year, the Attorney General said: "The public wants to be protected from dangerous dogs. The public supported the pit bull ban because they knew it was time to get dangerous dogs off our streets and out of our parks and backyards. The precedent has been set, our ban is working and it's time to look at other types of dogs involved in large numbers of bites and attacks."

As to whether it would be put to a vote in the Legislature or if public hearings would be held as they were for the pit bull ban, the response was: "We went through a vote, we had public hearings and we remained convinced that banning pit bulls was the right thing to do. The law allows the government to add any breeds or mixed breeds to its list of prohibited dogs without consultation. Municipalities have that authority as well."

The Opposition Critic could not be reached for comment. The NDP Attorney General Critic had this to say:

"I don't know why anyone would be surprised by this announcement. The Attorney General has already proven he is capable of banning dogs because of their breed. Labs are one of the most popular dogs in the province, why wouldn't they be next? More dogs, more bites - it isn't rocket science".

Asked if he thought adding another breed to the ban would protect the public, he replied "I don't know about the public. I think this is more about protecting the Attorney General's seat."

Be like Noah... @ 08:45 pm

Current Location: Roselle, IL
Current Mood: envious motivated
Current Noise: "Be Like Noah" - Jim Witter - (Forgiveness)

When I was just a little one, daddy read a story about a man who built his own boat. On the hot desert sand it stood, built on hope out of wood. Folks laughed and said it wouldn't float. They said, "The nearest sea is 1000 miles away, that ship will never sail." but he never lost his faith. Then Daddy closed the book he read, tucked me in and kissed my head and said "Let this lesson light your way."

You gotta do what you gotta do,
You gotta be who you are.
Don't let the world hold you down,
When you're reaching for your star.
Remember, some will follow others,
While others follow their hearts.
Be like Noah, build your own ark.

I guess I'll always remember standing in the cold september rain, packing up my car. Daddy's tears fell on my shoulder, said, "I can't believe you're old enough, but I guess you are. Now set your course on what you know is right, believe in yourself, don't be afraid to try. 'Cause even eagles fall from Heaven on the day they stop believing that they can't fly."

You gotta do what you gotta do,
You gotta be who you are.
Don't let the world hold you down,
When you're reaching for your star.
Remember, some will follow others,
While others follow their hearts.
Be like Noah, build your own ark.

Current Noise: "Walking In Memphis" - Lonestar - (Greatest Hits Album)

Found this is [info]petbulls and decided to crosspost it into my journal. I don't live in Flordia, but I know some of the people on my friends list do...

From: Rescue-A-Bull
Date: Jul 31, 2006 7:36 PM

Okay guys.. some of you have dealt with things like this.. What can we
do to stop talking about how we should ban pit bulls on the air...?
It's really upsetting... copy and paste this link to visit the site of
the radio station that got me most.

http://www.wtks.com/

First of all, At work, while I am caring for dogs, including pit bulls
EVERY DAY... We listen to the radio.. sometimes it gets left on this
station by other people.. and EVERY DAY when the PHILLIPS PHILE is
on... the guy named JIM talks about how we should ban pit bulls in
Orlando. I was wondering WHY more people weren't calling in to
DISAGREE and so many were calling to AGREE. Then I found out because I
finally had the time to call today. I GOT THROUGH, BUT THEY REFUSED MY
CALL BECAUSE I HAVE A PIT BULL AND DON'T SUPPORT BSL!!! TALK ABOUT
BULL &%#@! Exactly what they said was "your name, and what do you want
to say" I said Ashley, and that I want to talk about BSL.. she asked
if I own a pit bull and I said yes... she comes back on the line and
says "I'm sorry, but he doesn't want to hear your side of the
story".... ! I couldn't believe it... Such close-minded ignorant
people and they won't even listen to the other side... Guess you can't
fight ignorance or get people who don't care, too. And if you can,
THEN LET ME KNOW HOW!!!

Ashley&the dogs
